Biological interest in this peptide centers on its relationship to actin dynamics. Thymosin beta-4 binds monomeric actin through an LKKTET motif, and a short sequence carrying that motif can compete with other actin-binding proteins in cell-free preparations. Investigators propose that such competition shifts the balance between filament assembly and disassembly, which in turn affects how readily a cell extends protrusions and migrates. Most of the supporting observations come from cultured cells and purified protein systems rather than from intact organisms.
Animal work has examined the peptide in models of cardiac injury, skin wounding, and corneal repair, with reported outcomes covering cell migration, inflammatory cell influx, and tissue remodeling. Several of those experiments used the full-length protein or longer fragments instead of the seven-residue sequence, which makes direct comparison between reports difficult. Results are generally described as tissue-dependent, and effect sizes vary considerably across laboratories. Independent replication is uneven, so the overall picture is incomplete rather than settled.
Controlled human trials of the short fragment are scarce. Much of what appears in review articles is extrapolated from animal models or from studies of the parent protein, and literature searches return a larger body of cardiac and ophthalmic work on thymosin beta-4 than on the abbreviated peptide. Regulatory treatment differs by jurisdiction, and in several countries the material is handled as a research chemical rather than an approved therapeutic. Statements about human benefit should be read as provisional.
Lyophilised material is stable for extended periods when kept dry and cold, and suppliers typically recommend storage well below freezing. Once dissolved, the peptide is handled at refrigeration temperatures and used within a short period, because peptide bonds and the acetylated terminus can be affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles, proteases, or extreme pH. Bacteriostatic water and saline are both described as solvents, although preservatives can interfere with some analytical workflows. Reconstituted solutions are inspected for particulates before use.
Sports authorities classify the peptide as a prohibited substance, and it appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency list under peptide hormones, growth factors, and related substances. Racing jurisdictions for horses and dogs have issued separate restrictions, and several national bodies treat it as a controlled or prescription-only item. As a research chemical it is sold without a therapeutic indication, and labels usually state that the product is not for human or veterinary use. Regulatory treatment therefore varies by country.

Research interest in thymosin beta-4 fragments centres on actin sequestration, cell migration and tissue repair models. Most published work uses cultured cells or animal wound and cardiac preparations, and findings are generally described as preliminary. No fragment of this protein has been approved as a therapeutic product by major regulators. Reviews of the field note inconsistent dosing, delivery routes and outcome measures across studies, which complicates direct comparison. The material is best understood as a laboratory reagent with an active but unresolved research literature.
TB-500 is a catalogue name applied to a synthetic peptide related to thymosin beta-4, an actin-binding protein found in most mammalian cells. Suppliers do not use the label consistently: some describe it as the full 43-residue protein, others as a short fragment from the actin-binding region, and others as a related tetrapeptide. Because the name is commercial rather than chemical, two products sold under it may not contain the same molecule. This naming ambiguity is the first point to check in any description of the material.
The most frequently cited identity is a seven-residue fragment with the sequence LKKTETQ, taken from the actin-binding domain of the parent protein. A separate molecule, N-acetyl-seryl-aspartyl-lysyl-proline, often shortened to Ac-SDKP, derives from the same protein's N-terminal region and appears in overlapping literature. Reported molecular masses therefore differ between sources, and a mass value on its own does not establish which fragment is present. Confirmation requires a defined sequence rather than a single number.
Published work involving this sequence spans actin-binding assays, cell-migration studies, wound-healing models, and cardiovascular or musculoskeletal experiments. Much of the biological rationale derives from in vitro systems and animal models, and the number of controlled human studies is small. Reported outcomes vary across preparations, doses, and routes, which complicates comparison between studies. Reviews generally describe the evidence base as preliminary rather than settled. Mechanistic explanations are often proposed by analogy to the parent protein rather than demonstrated directly.
TB-500 is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide with the sequence LKKTETQ, corresponding to residues 17 through 23 of the protein thymosin beta-4. The N-terminus is typically acetylated in the described form, giving a monoisotopic mass near 888.5 Da and an average mass of about 889 Da. The designation TB-500 is a catalogue label rather than a formal chemical name, and the same sequence appears in the literature under several alternative abbreviations. It is handled as a research reagent rather than a pharmaceutical product.
Discussion of TB-500 appears in several distinct literatures that rarely cite one another. Peer-reviewed studies usually describe in vitro assays or small animal experiments and are cautious about extrapolation. Veterinary and sports communities circulate anecdotal reports with limited methodological detail. Commercial listings add a third layer, often using the name interchangeably with thymosin beta-4 even though the two molecules differ in size and sequence. Regulatory status varies by country, and the compound is not a licensed medicine in most jurisdictions, so readers comparing sources should check which molecule and which purity each source actually describes.
TB-500 is a synthetic seven-residue peptide whose sequence, LKKTETQ, matches the N-terminal actin-binding region of thymosin beta-4. It is usually supplied in an N-terminally acetylated form, a modification that blocks the free amino terminus and can influence behavior in solution. In the research literature the same sequence appears under several names, including thymosin beta-4 fragment and shortened thymosin beta-4. Because it is a short peptide rather than the full 43-residue parent protein, its measured properties differ from those reported for thymosin beta-4 as a whole, and the two are not interchangeable in experimental design.
Thymosin beta-4 itself is a small, widely expressed protein that sequesters monomeric actin and participates in cell migration, angiogenesis, and tissue repair. Researchers have examined the shortened fragment as a possible mimic of some of these activities, reasoning that the actin-binding motif lies within the first few residues. Binding to monomeric actin has been observed in cell-free systems. Whether the fragment reproduces the broader effects of the full protein in living tissue remains an open question, and findings from animal models are frequently cited without a clear bridge to human physiology.
== Clinical significance == The members of the HtrA family of proteases have been shown playing critical roles in cell physiology and being involved in several pathological processes including cancer and neurodegenerative disease. Strong evidences supported HtrA2's involvement in oncogenesis. This protein is widely expressed in a variety of cancer cell lines, Analysis of biopsy samples showed changes in expression of HtrA2 in cancer tissues compared with normal tissues. HtrA2 has recently been identified as a gene related to Parkinson's disease. Mutations in Htra2 have been found in patients with Parkinson's disease. Additionally, mice lacking HtrA2 have a parkinsonian phenotype. This suggests that HtrA2 is linked to Parkinson's disease progression in humans and mice.
21 July – Writing in the Sun on Sunday, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announces that car washes and beauty salons will be targeted by immigration officials over the summer in a bid to crack down on businesses illegally hiring workers from overseas. Former Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, who was Health Secretary for a number of years before the COVID-19 pandemic, apologises "unreservedly" to the families of people who died from the illness after a report prepared by the COVID-19 Inquiry found significant flaws in the government's strategy for dealing with the pandemic. 22 July – Home Secretary Yvette Cooper confirms the UK government will resume processing asylum applications, including those from people who arrived in the UK illegally. She also tells the House of Commons the previous government's Rwanda asylum plan cost £700m, with only four people being removed to the country voluntarily. The shadow home secretary, James Cleverly, says Cooper's words are "hyperbole" and "made up numbers", adding that Labour had scrapped scheme on "ideological grounds" and that its purpose was as a deterrent. Commenting on the assessment of the Tusk's government during the election, political scientist Gavin Rae argued that it showed misalignment with its promises from the 2023 Polish parliamentary election, and continuity with the right-wing policies of the previous government led by Law and Justice:There has been little progress on women’s and LGBT rights. Despite the propaganda about its economic record, many Poles have had to work even harder to maintain their basic living standards, with 40% of people forced to restrict their spending to make ends meet. With Tusk introducing a new round of deregulation, public services – the health service in particular – have continued to deteriorate, leaving many with inadequate care.
It chose to follow a single character to aid the immersion, creating the isolation of a vampire unable to trust any other character. This aided the story and compensated for the technical issues of allowing multiple player characters. Choice is a significant aspect of the game, requiring a non-linear design to accommodate the customized characters. Level design began with a list of factors such as Disciplines, stealth, and feats. Each area had to be viable for a shooting character (sufficient ammunition), a discipline-focused character (sufficient blood sources to keep the powers fueled), and a melee specialist (to reach enemies without being killed), with stealth options and option combinations. Level design began with a focus on stealth, considering the positioning of guards and the character's potential stealth capability at that point in the game. Then direct, combat-heavy, and dialogue paths were added. The amusement arcade area was to feature playable versions of Activision arcade games such as Pitfall!, though the idea was abandoned due to time constraints. Director Leonard Boyarsky considered the animation system important in the team's choice of the Source engine. The integrated "faceposer" tool allowed Troika to customize facial animations, expressions, gestures, and lip-synching, eliminating the need to explain what a character was doing. Every non-player character required a voiceover, which helped Troika define its characters more quickly.

The American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists states:Dry needling is a neurophysiological evidence-based treatment technique that requires effective manual assessment of the neuromuscular system. Physical therapists are well trained to utilize dry needling with manual physical therapy interventions. Research supports that dry needling improves pain control, reduces muscle tension, normalizes biochemical and electrical dysfunction of motor end plates, and facilitates an accelerated return to active rehabilitation. Dry needling for the treatment of myofascial (muscular) trigger points is based on theories similar, but not exclusive, to traditional acupuncture; both acupuncture and dry needling target the trigger points, which are a direct and palpable source of patient pain. A high degree of correspondence is reported between myofascial trigger point dry needling and traditional western acupuncture. Acupuncture and dry needling are similar in the underlying phenomenon and neural processes between trigger and acupuncture points. There is a high degree of correspondence between published locations of trigger points and classical acupuncture points for the relief of pain. Dry needling, and its treatment techniques and desired effects, would be most directly comparable to the use of 'a-shi' points in acupuncture. However, dry needling theory only begins to describe the complex sensation referral patterns that have been documented as "channels" or "meridians" in Chinese Medicine.
X-linked intellectual disability refers to medical disorders associated with X-linked recessive inheritance that result in intellectual disability. As with most X-linked disorders, males are more heavily affected than females. Females with one affected X chromosome and one normal X chromosome tend to have milder symptoms. Unlike many other types of intellectual disability, the genetics of these conditions are relatively well understood. It has been estimated there are ~200 genes involved in this syndrome; of these ~100 have been identified. Many of these genes are found on the short 'p' arm of the chromosome, and duplications at Xp11.2 are associated with the syndromic form of the condition. X-linked intellectual disability accounts for ~16% of all cases of intellectual disability in males.
In 1958, the Independent Socialist League, led by Max Shachtman, dissolved and joined the Socialist Party of America (SPA), which was founded by Eugene V. Debs. Shachtman had written that Soviet communism was a new form of class society, bureaucratic collectivism, in which the ruling class exploited and oppressed the population, and therefore he opposed the spread of communism. Shachtman argued that democratic socialists should work with labor unions and civil rights organizations to build a social democratic "realignment" of the Democratic Party. "Shachmanites" had a great amount of influence on the SPA. In its 1972 convention, the SPA changed its name to Social Democrats, USA by a vote of 73 to 34, supported by both Co-Chairmen, Bayard Rustin and Charles S. Zimmerman. This rename was meant to be "realistic". The New York Times observed that the Socialist Party had last sponsored Darlington Hoopes as its candidate for president in the 1956 election, who received only 2,121 votes, in just six states. The majority report noted that the name "party" was "misleading" because the SPA no longer sponsored presidential candidates, and also hindered recruitment of activists who participated in the Democratic Party. The name "Socialist" was replaced by "Social Democrats" because many American associated the word "socialism" with Soviet communism. The party also wished to distinguish itself from two small Marxist parties.
An even older naming system for metal cations, also still widely used, appended the suffixes -ous and -ic to the Latin root of the name, to give special names for the low and high oxidation states. For example, this scheme uses "ferrous" and "ferric", for iron(II) and iron(III) respectively, so the examples given above were classically named ferrous sulfate and ferric sulfate. Common salt-forming cations include:

set up a laboratory in the kitchen and woodshed of an old house in Washington near the area now occupied by buildings of the Department of Agriculture and there completed their researches on butter. This was the first dairy products research laboratory in Washington. Lore Rogers completed his first publications on butter. About this time he was elected to the Society of American Bacteriologists and in Washington married Beatrice Oberly, who was employed as bureau librarian. "Fishy Flavor in Butter" and "The Influence of Acidity of Cream on the Flavor of Butter" were published next. In 1909 the Dairy Research Laboratories were finally created and placed under the direction of Lore Rogers. His son, John Oberly Rogers, was born the same year. In 1911 he was selected as an official delegate representing the United States at the International Dairy Congress meeting at Stockholm. A publication on the spoiling of butter was published by the United States Department of Agriculture. By 1914 he was developing a procedure for preserving bacterial cultures by removing gas while in their frozen state. A few years later the United States Army would adopt the technique in the preparation of typhoid vaccines during World War I. In 1916 Lore Rogers became an advisory editor of the Journal of Bacteriology. A year later he was secretary of the Washington Branch of the Society of American Bacteriologists. In 1920 and 1921 he published articles on the manufacture of sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk. In 1920 and 1922 he served as president of the American Society of Bacteriologists.
=== Probiotics === Some probiotic supplements use the yeast S. boulardii to maintain and restore the natural flora in the gastrointestinal tract. S. boulardii has been shown to reduce the symptoms of acute diarrhea, reduce the chance of infection by Clostridium difficile (often identified simply as C. difficile or C. diff), reduce bowel movements in diarrhea-predominant IBS patients, and reduce the incidence of antibiotic-, traveler's-, and HIV/AIDS-associated diarrheas.
=== Fingerprints === Sir William Herschel was one of the first to advocate the use of fingerprinting in the identification of criminal suspects. While working for the Indian Civil Service, he began to use thumbprints on documents as a security measure to prevent the then-rampant repudiation of signatures in 1858.
Initially, Valve used a hierarchical structure typical of other development firms, driven by the nature of physical game releases through publishers that required tasks to be completed by deadlines. However, as Valve became its own publisher via Steam, it found the hierarchical structure was hindering progress. After completing Half-Life 2, Valve transitioned to a flat organization. Outside of executive management, Valve does not have bosses, and uses an open allocation system. Valve's marketing manager, Doug Lombardi, said: "Nobody writes a design doc and hands it to somebody and says, 'you go build this'. It's the teams that are coming up with the ideas and pushing in the directions that they want to take the product." This approach allows employees to work on whatever interests them, but requires them to take ownership of their product and mistakes they may make, according to Newell. Newell recognized that this structure works well for some but that "there are plenty of great developers for whom this is a terrible place to work". Following the difficult development of Half-Life 2, Newell said he became "obsessed" with improving Valve's work-life balance. Although Valve has no bosses, some employees hold more influence due to seniority or relationships. De facto project leads became "centralized conduits" for organization and sharing information, and decisions are made collectively. Valve uses a process named Overwatch to gather feedback from senior members, which teams may use or ignore. The success of Steam means that Valve is not dependent on the success of its games.
=== Sublingual administration === Estradiol tablets can be taken sublingually instead of orally. Non-micronized estradiol tablets in doses of 0.125, 0.25, and 1 mg were previously marketed for use by sublingual administration under brand names such as Diogynets, Estradiol Membrettes, and Dimenformon in the 1950s. Non-micronized estradiol has poor water solubility, but micronized estradiol is rapidly absorbed by the sublingual route. All oral estradiol tablets are micronized, as this improves the efficiency of estradiol absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Likewise, all oral estradiol valerate tablets seem to be micronized. The sublingual route is, in actuality, probably a combination of sublingual and oral delivery of estradiol due to incidental swallowing of some of the estradiol. The absorption of sublingual estradiol can be attributed to the rich vascularization under the tongue. With administration of an oral estradiol tablet sublingually, complete dissolution of the tablet occurs within a few minutes and circulating levels of estradiol begin to rise within 5 minutes. Maximal levels of estradiol occur after 30 to 60 minutes of administration. After this, estradiol levels drop steeply within 4 hours, and this is followed by a more gradual decline in levels of estradiol and a return to baseline concentrations by 24 hours. The rapid rise and steep fall of estradiol levels with sublingual administration of estradiol is analogous to the case of intravenous injection and intranasal administration of the hormone.

The leading proposal involves sequestration of monomeric actin, which would alter cytoskeletal turnover and cell movement. The actin-binding motif shared with the parent protein is central to that idea. Direct confirmation in whole organisms remains limited.
Very few controlled human studies focus on the seven-residue sequence itself. Most clinical data concern the full-length protein in cardiac or ophthalmic settings. Conclusions drawn for one form should not be assumed to transfer to the other.
Detection normally relies on reversed-phase liquid chromatography paired with mass spectrometry. Chromatographic retention time establishes the expected elution window, and the mass spectrum confirms the molecular ion. Immunoassays exist but can cross-react with related peptides.
The most common approach is liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry after extraction from blood or urine. Immunoassays exist but are generally treated as screening tools because of cross-reactivity.
