The seven-residue chain carries several polar and charged side chains, so it dissolves readily in water and in aqueous buffers near neutral pH. No cysteine is present, so disulphide formation is not a concern and reducing agents are unnecessary. Dilute ammonium hydroxide or acetonitrile-water mixtures are sometimes used for stock solutions when initial dissolution is slow. Strongly alkaline conditions and prolonged contact with oxidising agents are avoided because they can modify lysine-containing stretches, and haze in solution usually signals incomplete dissolution or aggregated material.
Identity and purity are checked with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the target sequence from truncated or deletion analogues, and with mass spectrometry, which confirms the expected molecular mass. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping give orthogonal confirmation but are used less often outside specialist laboratories. Counter-ion content varies: material purified on trifluoroacetic acid gradients retains trifluoroacetate, and ion exchange can convert the salt form. Residual water and solvent are measured by Karl Fischer titration or thermogravimetric analysis, and any purity figure should be read together with the method used to obtain it.
The regulatory position is broadly consistent across major jurisdictions: no thymosin beta-4 fragment is an approved medicine, and laboratory material is commonly labelled as not intended for human consumption. Anti-doping rules in sport list thymosin beta-4 and its fragments among prohibited peptide hormones. Because these products travel through research-chemical channels rather than pharmaceutical supply chains, quality varies considerably between vendors. Independent testing of identity, purity and sterility is the only dependable check, and a certificate of analysis describes one batch rather than a supplier's whole catalogue.
Lyophilized peptide powder is normally held desiccated at −20 °C, with −80 °C used for longer storage periods. Allowing a sealed vial to reach room temperature before opening is standard practice, because condensation forming on cold powder introduces moisture. Once dissolved, solutions are typically kept cold and shielded from light. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided because they encourage aggregation and gradual loss of material. These conventions are general to synthetic peptides rather than unique to any one sequence.
Purity and identity are separate measurements and are often confused. Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, usually with ultraviolet detection near 214 nanometres, reports the share of total peak area belonging to the target compound. Mass spectrometry by electrospray or matrix-assisted laser desorption then checks whether the observed mass matches the expected sequence. Neither measurement alone shows that a vial holds the intended peptide. Peptide content, meaning the fraction of vial mass that is genuine peptide rather than counter-ion, water or residual acid, is reported separately and is frequently lower than the stated purity figure.
| Property | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Water content | Low in freshly lyophilised material | Rises after repeated opening of the same vial |
| Solution stability | Lower than powder stability | Frozen aliquots are preferred over repeated thawing |
| Purity assessment | Reversed-phase HPLC with UV detection | Peak-area percentage excludes salts and water |
| Salt form | Often the trifluoroacetate salt | Retained from acidic purification gradients |
| Light sensitivity | Not strongly photoreactive | Dark storage still advised for long-term keeping |
Published work involving this sequence spans actin-binding assays, cell-migration studies, wound-healing models, and cardiovascular or musculoskeletal experiments. Much of the biological rationale derives from in vitro systems and animal models, and the number of controlled human studies is small. Reported outcomes vary across preparations, doses, and routes, which complicates comparison between studies. Reviews generally describe the evidence base as preliminary rather than settled. Mechanistic explanations are often proposed by analogy to the parent protein rather than demonstrated directly.
TB-500 is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide with the sequence LKKTETQ, corresponding to residues 17 through 23 of the protein thymosin beta-4. The N-terminus is typically acetylated in the described form, giving a monoisotopic mass near 888.5 Da and an average mass of about 889 Da. The designation TB-500 is a catalogue label rather than a formal chemical name, and the same sequence appears in the literature under several alternative abbreviations. It is handled as a research reagent rather than a pharmaceutical product.
Controlled human trials of the short fragment are scarce. Much of what appears in review articles is extrapolated from animal models or from studies of the parent protein, and literature searches return a larger body of cardiac and ophthalmic work on thymosin beta-4 than on the abbreviated peptide. Regulatory treatment differs by jurisdiction, and in several countries the material is handled as a research chemical rather than an approved therapeutic. Statements about human benefit should be read as provisional.
Biological interest in this peptide centers on its relationship to actin dynamics. Thymosin beta-4 binds monomeric actin through an LKKTET motif, and a short sequence carrying that motif can compete with other actin-binding proteins in cell-free preparations. Investigators propose that such competition shifts the balance between filament assembly and disassembly, which in turn affects how readily a cell extends protrusions and migrates. Most of the supporting observations come from cultured cells and purified protein systems rather than from intact organisms.
Animal work has examined the peptide in models of cardiac injury, skin wounding, and corneal repair, with reported outcomes covering cell migration, inflammatory cell influx, and tissue remodeling. Several of those experiments used the full-length protein or longer fragments instead of the seven-residue sequence, which makes direct comparison between reports difficult. Results are generally described as tissue-dependent, and effect sizes vary considerably across laboratories. Independent replication is uneven, so the overall picture is incomplete rather than settled.
== Biological role == Surface proteins of Gram-positive bacteria play an important role in the pathogenesis of human infections such as Clostridioides difficile infection. These surface/adhesion proteins mediate the initial attachment of bacteria to host tissues. These proteins are covalently linked to the peptidoglycan of the bacterial cell wall. As more and more pathogens become resistant to antibiotics, inhibition of sortases may offer a novel strategy against gram-positive bacterial infections. SrtB, in particular, has gained much attention and is recognized as a promising target and deletion of its gene in gram-positive bacteria will lead to serious virulence defects. Crystal structures of these SrtB enzymes from different species have been solved with ligands/inhibitors bound to their active site. With knowledge of the active site, the development of better therapeutics against these bacteria species can be done.
Response factor, usually in chromatography and spectroscopy, is the ratio between a signal produced by an analyte, and the quantity of analyte which produces the signal. Ideally, and for easy computation, this ratio is unity (one). In real-world scenarios, this is often not the case.
== Overview == Fructilactobacillus sanfranciscensis was first known to be isolated in 1971 by Kline and Sugihara. As lactic acid bacteria, the strains are Gram-positive, slender, rod-shaped, nonsporulating, and non-motile. They are also obligately heterofermentative, meaning that they can convert hexose sugars into not just lactic acid, but also ethanol, CO2, and/or acetic acid. This heterofermentative ability is key for this species' role in creating the unique flavor of sourdough bread. Sourdough starters are leavened by a mixture of yeast and lactobacilli in a ratio of about 1:100. Common yeast species found in combination with F. sanfranciscensis are Kazachstania humilis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Wickerhamomyces anomalus. This yeast cannot metabolize the maltose found in the dough, while the Fructilactobacillus requires maltose. They therefore act without conflict for substrate, with lactobacilli utilizing maltose and the yeast utilizing the other sugars, including the glucose produced by the F. sanfranciscensis.
Peter Joseph Moloney (29 June 1891, Penetanguishene, Ontario – 12 August 1989, Toronto, Ontario) was a Canadian chemist. He is known for his work on developing vaccines against diphtheria and tetanus, purifying insulin preparations for clinical use, demonstrating antibodies against insulin in humans and animals, and developing sulfated insulin preparations for the treatment of diabetics with insulin resistance. He also invented a quick-acting pH electrode and helped to develop an antiserum that was used in WW II for protection against gas gangrene.
Senate on 17 May 2005, Galloway said that he had "met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him," but "The difference is Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns ... I met him to try to bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war". In the late 1990s, Galloway allegedly lost favour with Saddam Hussein after telling an interviewer that he supported the Iraqi people rather than their president. In 1999, he met with Uday Hussein, Saddam's son. On 6 May 2002, Galloway met with Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz in Baghdad on his second visit to Iraq that year, accompanied by the Labour peer Nicolas Rea and Labour MPs Kerry Pollard and Robert Wareing. He was also scheduled to address a conference of solidarity with the Iraqi people. His party ran into the far-right Governor of Carinthia Jörg Haider returning from a meeting with Foreign Minister Naji Sabri. Galloway did not take his companions' suggestion to copy a scene from Casablanca by singing La Marsellaise in front of Haider. On 8 August 2002, two days after the Iraqi invitation to resume talks in Baghdad was rejected by the United Nations Security Council and against the mounting threat of US invasion, Galloway was received for the second time by Saddam Hussein. Per Galloway's account, the meeting took place in a secret underground bunker near Baghdad.

According to Will Freeman of the Council on Foreign Relations, Bukele has styled himself as the "second coming of Francisco Morazán", a Honduran politician who was president of the Federal Republic of Central America in the 1820s and 1830s. El Faro's Gabriel Labrador compared him to 18th-century military officer and Venezuela independence leader Simón Bolívar for wanting to form a "union of the [Central American] people".
The election was a rare victory for conservatism and nationalism in Thailand, marking its first victory in the 21st century. Bhumjaithai was seen as benefiting from nationalist sentiments after Thailand's recent clash with Cambodia. While the other two major parties performed respectably, they ultimately fragmented the centrist and progressive vote. Anutin formed a coalition government with Pheu Thai and was re-elected prime minister on 19 March 2026. The conduct of the election remained subject to legal challenge, with the Constitutional Court due to rule in September 2026 on whether codes printed on the ballots breached the constitutional guarantee of voting secrecy.
After a vascular injury occurs, platelets are activated by locally exposed collagen (glycoprotein (GP) VI receptor), locally generated thrombin (PAR1 and PAR4 receptors), platelet-derived thromboxane A2 (TxA2) (TP receptor) and ADP (P2Y1 and P2Y12 receptors) that is either released from damaged cells or secreted from platelet dense granules. The von Willebrand factor (VWF) serves as an essential accessory molecule. In general terms, platelet activation initiated by agonist takes to a signaling cascade that leads to an increase of the cytosolic calcium concentration. Consequently, the integrin αIIbβ3 is activated and the binding to fibrinogen allows the aggregation of platelets to each other. The increase of cytosolic calcium also leads to shape change and TxA2 synthesis, leading to signal amplification.
Creating a CCP involves three steps: initiation, multiplication and mixture. The population then goes into the maintenance phase. A number of lines, generally 7-30, with interesting properties, such as yield or baking quality, are selected and all possible crosses of them are done. If many lines of different genetic background are used, a huge amount of genetic diversity will be present. Seeds from crosses are sown out and harvested separately for a growing season or two until enough seeds are available. All seeds are mixed in equal portions to produce the first CCP generation. The population is grown repeatedly and possibly changes due to natural selection. Each year seeds are saved after harvest, and used as seed for the next growing season. Plants that are successful under the prevailing growing conditions will give more seeds and contribute more to the next generation, compared to less successful plants. Disease will cull susceptible plants and the population will over time become resistant to the common diseases, but only if the initial population has resistance genes present.
Assessment of kidney function occurs in different ways, using the presence of symptoms and signs, as well as measurements using urine tests, blood tests, and medical imaging. Functions of a healthy kidney include maintaining a person's fluid balance, maintaining an acid-base balance; regulating sodium and other electrolytes; clearing toxins; regulating blood pressure; and regulating hormones, such as erythropoietin; and activation of vitamin D. The kidney is also involved in maintaining blood pH balance.

The 227AcBe neutron sources can be applied in a neutron probe – a standard device for measuring the quantity of water present in soil, as well as moisture/density for quality control in highway construction. Such probes are also used in well logging applications, in neutron radiography, tomography, and other radiochemical investigations.
== Global production == In 2012, 158,000 kilograms of thebaine were produced. In 2013, Australia was the main producer of poppy straw rich in thebaine, followed by Spain and then France. By 2017, worldwide thebaine production dropped to 142,400 kg. Together, those three countries accounted for about 99 per cent of global production of such poppy straw. The seed capsules of Papaver bracteatum are the primary source of thebaine, with the stem additionally yielding a significant amount. Although thebaine is not used therapeutically, it is a starting material for industrial productions of pharmaceutical drugs including hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone, oxymorphone, nalbuphine, naloxone, naltrexone, buprenorphine, butorphanol and etorphine.

== Chemical properties == Bromo(I) fluorosulfonate is a blackish-red, viscous, hydrolysis-sensitive liquid that reacts violently with water. Upon cooling, it solidifies into a glassy state. Bromo(I) fluorosulfonate reacts with iodine(I) fluorosulfonate at temperatures above 50 °C to form dibromoiodofluorosulfonate:
== RNA == RNA is subdivided into many categories, including messenger RNA (mRNA), ribosomal RNA (rRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), and several other small functional RNAs. Whereas many proteins have quaternary structure, the majority of RNA molecules have only primary through tertiary structure and function as individual molecules rather than as multi-subunit structures. Some types of RNA show clear quaternary structure that is essential for function, whereas other types of RNA function as single molecules and do not associate with other molecules to form quaternary structures. Symmetrical complexes of RNA molecules are extremely uncommon compared to protein oligomers. One example of an RNA homodimer is the VS ribozyme from Neurospora, with its two active sites consisting of nucleotides from both monomers. The best known example of RNA forming quaternary structures with proteins is the ribosome, which consists of multiple rRNAs, supported by rProteins. Similar RNA-Protein complexes are also found in the spliceosome.

Divide it into single-use aliquots and hold them frozen at -20 °C or below, protected from light. Repeated thawing of one container is the main avoidable source of variability.
Mass spectrometry confirms identity, because the measured mass is compared with the value expected from the sequence. Chromatography mainly reports how much of the material elutes as the target peak.
It usually describes the share of the chromatographic peak area recorded at a set wavelength. Salts, residual water, and solvent are excluded from that number, so it is not the same as mass fraction.
Desiccated storage at −20 °C is conventional, with −80 °C for extended periods. Vials should be warmed to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation on the powder.
